Midland to 12 Mile Bay

Sunday morning found us prowling the town's farmers market for fresh produce and a blueberry pie.  Final departure was delayed till 13:00 as the LCBO does not open till noon and you can't begin such an adventure without a proper ration of grog aboard.
With time to kill we had a look at some of the many murals which decorate the commercial buildings.

Finally underway we headed for O'Donnell Point across the bay under the threat of severe thunder storms but the sky looked far from threatening.  We were planning to join the small craft route a few miles north of its beginings in Severn.

The day improved steadily and we made it to 12Mile Bay and a great anchorage in time for a quick dip the 75 degree water and a light supper.

Cincinnati to Georgian Bay 2011

After an enjoyable trip to the North Channel in 2009 we had been anxious to spend some time in "The Sweetwater Sea", Georgian Bay.  In order to arrive with enough daylight and energy to launch the boat we split the drive in two.  All was going well until we encountered bumper to bumper traffic north bound on the 400 between Toronto and Midland, Ontario.  As it happens the last weekend in July is a civic holiday and everyone with a car was headed to their cottages.  Lesson: know your Canadian Holiday schedule.  So much for the relaxed launch.  We were rushing to make the closing time for the town marina where we had reserved a slip for the night.  Fortunately a call the dockmaster put us at ease.  He gave us the slip number and put the shower key in a place where we could find it easily.  Launched and docked we found supper ashore and called it an early night after a long day.
