Thunderbolt back to Wahoo River

Late start today after waiting for a pumpout and another trip to the marine store for some reading light bulbs.

It was another beautiful day with the wind in the teens.  For some reason when were cruising under sail the wind rarely blew now we have goo breeze on every trip.

Remember this one?

Savannah

We had decided to spend two nights at the marina to allow a full day of sight seeing in Savannah.  We could easily have spent several days there if we had had the time.  The weather was perfect and the city is beautiful.  We met a couple from Northeast Harbor, ME when we both choked audibly when the tour driver announced that Savannah has the highest tides on the East coast.  We promised to look them up when we get to Maine.

Wahoo River to Savannah

The predicted cold front settled in over night with temps dropping to the low 50's. We got an early start to cover the 40 plus nm left to Thunderbolt Marina near Savannah.

The wind had dropped into the mid teens as we departed.

We arrived at Thunderbolt Marine at 2:30 leaving time for a walk around and trip to the local marine supply store.

April 27, 2010

We departed in the morning with clear skies and winds predicted the low 20's.  The creeks are relatively protected but it can be sloppy crossing the lager sounds between the islands.

After nearly 50 nm winding north through the creeks of the ICW we anchored for the night up the Wahoo River near a spot recommended by Skipper Bob.  The wind was still strong so the boat sailed a good bit in the anchor.

Georgia ICW Cruise 2010

 April 26, 2010

At the end of April we decided to get a jump on the cruising season with a trip south to explore the Georgia marshes from Savannah to Fernandina Beach.  We chose Jekyll Harbor Marina as a starting point.  They are very friendly and arranged for a fork lift launch and trailer and truck storage.

As it turns out there is quite a tide fall in Georgia  and we happened to hit dead low.

When we arrived at the marina I was surprised to see a very unique vessel who's original owner I had sailed with years before.   We introduced ourselves to the new owners and tied up next to them for the night.
